At Knowl Hill CE Academy, learning and teaching is provided through topic based themes. This enables learning to be creative, stimulating, knowledgeable and skills based. On your child's class web page, you will find details of what is happening in the curriculum for each term. A hard copy is available on request at the start of each new term.
Children learn to read before they start school. Reading captions, labels and getting to know symbols, logos and real words from made up words are important aspects of literacy development. At Knowl Hill, we teach reading through many different methods that are integrated into school life. Our main thread for supporting the teaching of reading is synthetic phonics. We use ''Read Write Inc" as our main scheme of work from Reception year until the children are confident with letter patterns, sounds and can apply this in their reading and writing.
There are many resources that can be found online and in shops to support the "Read Write Inc" scheme of work. Please speak with your class teacher if you would like to know more.
If you would like more information on the curriculum we follow at Knowl Hill please contact our Head of School Mrs Bourner on 01628 822584.
