We have been joined for the Autumn term by Mr Gurung who is a student teacher. He will be in school between 3 - 4 days each week.
Welcome back to school. We hope you have had a great summer full of lots of fun, family time and reading! We have a great term of fantastic learning planned and can't wait to share it with you all.
Fresh fruit is provided by the government for all children in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2. The variety differs each day, so if your child would prefer something else then please feel free to send it to school.
If your child is staying for an after-school club, e.g. cookery, football, street dance or judo, then please send in a healthy snack for your child to enjoy before their club starts. If your child attends after-school care with usports then a healthy snack is provided.
Please see the curriculum bulletin for more information about the learning we will do this term.
Maths
Y1 – This week we learnt about part-whole models, introduced the addition symbol, learnt about addition facts in fact families and we introduced number bonds to 10.
Next week we will explore number bonds to 10, compare number bonds, add together and add more.
Y2 – This week we explored related addition facts e.g 6 + 8 =14, 8 + 6 =14, 14 - 8 =6, 14 - 6 =8, we learnt number bond to 100 (in tens), added and subtracted 1s over a tens barrier e.g 49+1 or 80-1 and we learned to add two numbers by making 10 first e.g. 6+9=? 6+4=10 10+5=15 so 6+9=15.
Next week we will add more than two 1-digit numbers, add to the next 10, add across a 10 and subtract across a 10.
Writing
This week we added the final sentences to our 'My Beach Trip' books, rereading our work to check it makes sense and making any necessary edits.
Next week we will focus on spelling rules, sentence accuracy and handwriting.
Phonics and Reading
Please see the link below for ideas and resources to support your child with their phonics.
Parent guide to Read Write Inc. Phonics - Oxford Owl
We will be completing reading and phonic assessments next week.
Reminder: Please keep reading at home every day and write in your reading record each time you read! Books will be changed on Mondays and Thursdays.
Science
This week we explored natural materials found at the seaside and explore their properties.
Next week we will explore plastic and how it can be used, depending on its properties.
RE (Religious Education)
In RE, we recapped the characteristics of God found in Bible stories and shared which characteristic we though was the most important.
Next week we will learn to explain the difference between right and wrong and where Christians find out the answers to what is right and wrong.
PE (Physical Education)
PE this term is focussed on football, basketball and Gymnastics. This week we started Basketball. We focussed on walking with the ball, balancing the ball and moving the ball around our bodies, without dropping it.
Next week we will learn how to push the ball through our finger tips, how to bounce the ball at the right height for more control and how to walk slowly with the ball.
Big Picture
This week we practised playing a song on the recorder (Sailor, Sailor on the sea), using the notes B, A and G. We then performed it to the class in small groups and evaluated our own performance. The children worked really hard and were very supportive of each other.
Next week we will start our learning in Geography. We will identify human and physical features, of the world and name the continents and the oceans.
