School Car Park

A gentle reminder to parents and carers that the school car park is reserved for authorised staff and visitors who have received prior permission from Mrs Bourner. To help keep our pupils safe and ensure traffic moves smoothly during our busy drop-off and collection times, we kindly ask that you do not park in the school car park without permission. We really appreciate your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a safe and well-organised environment for everyone. Please make use of the kiss and drop facilities across the road. Truthfulness

Our learning this week: 

English

In English, we have been reading the book 'Rose Blanche', which is set during World War 2. We made predictions about what we thought would happen in the book, explored images from the book and wrote a setting description based on one of these images. We also explored 2 contrasting characters from the book – Rose and a soldier – so we could create contrasting character poems. 

Maths

In Maths, we focused on place value. We began the week by recapping our knowledge of Roman numerals, then moved on to identifying the place value of digits in 4- and 5- digit numbers. 

Science

In Science, we began exploring forces and conducted an experiment to see the effect of gravity on objects with the same shape and size but different mass. We explored theories by Aristotle and Galileo, concluding that Galileo's theory of gravity acting on objects regardless of mass was correct.

Guided Reading

In guided reading, we began to read the book 'Goodnight, Mister Tom'. We read and discussed the first 2 chapters and are very excited to continue reading next week. 

The Big Picture

In our topic lessons this week, we continued learning all about the history of World War 2. We learnt about the axis and allied powers, key political figures and how the war affected ordinary people. We made our own model Anderson shelters and listened to Neville Chamberlain's historic speech declaring that Britain was at war with Germany. We looked at the consequences of World War 2 and created a timeline of key turning points in the conflict.

RE

In RE, we began to think about out Big Question concerning religious and scientific views of the start of the world. 

Physical Education

In PE, we will be focusing on football skills this half term.
