Please encourage your child to practise their times tables for at least 10 minutes each day. This is a crucial skill that supports confidence and success across many areas of maths. Strong times-table knowledge helps children with:

- Multiplication and division

- Fractions (finding equivalents, simplifying, comparing and operations)

- Decimals and percentages

- Long multiplication and long division

- Factors, multiples and prime numbers

- Area, perimeter and volume

- Ratio and proportion

- Problem-solving and reasoning tasks

Regular, short practice makes a big difference and helps build a strong foundation for more advanced maths concepts.

Homework

Homework will be set through our online system, Atom learning. Every fortnight, the children will be given tasks in Maths, English and Guided Reading. These are marked automatically online, and I will closely monitor their progress.

Children who complete all three pieces of homework will earn Dojo points as a reward for their effort. It’s very important that homework is completed regularly as it helps to reinforce and recap the learning we do in class.

In addition, please continue to support your child at home by:

- Practising spellings and learning the spelling rules

- Reading regularly together or independently

Reading records can be handed in every day (placed in the basket at the front of the room) for an adult to check and sign.

The Maths, English and Guided Reading homework is set on Monday, 07/09/26 and is due on 18/09/26.

These spellings will be checked on Friday, 11th September 2026.

Infectious – Able to spread a disease or causing an infection.

Nutritious – Food that is good for you because it contains vitamins, minerals and other substances your body needs. 

Conscious – Being alert, awake and aware of your surroundings.

Delicious – Having a very pleasant smell, taste or general appeal to the senses.

Malicious – Having a deliberate desire to cause harm, hurt or upset someone. 

Precious – Something of high value or that is cherished.

Suspicious – Causing doubt, distrust or the feeling that something dishonest is happening.
