Year 2

Welcome to year 2

Your teacher is Mrs De La Bertauche (Mrs D)

Your teaching assistants are Mrs Lancaster

 Our Topic: Frozen Kingdom

* Important notice*

We would like to kindly remind parents that the school car park is reserved for authorised staff and visitors who have received prior permission from Mrs Bourner. We have had a number of near misses recently caused by cars pulling into the entrance of the school car park to drop off and then pulling out again onto the A4. The A4 is a very busy road, it is important to set a good example to the children so please park sensibly and walk over the footbridge. There is plenty of parking at the village hall and it is only a short 1-2 minute walk from kiss and drop. Thank you.

This Week in Year 2

Year 2 Weekly Update

Year 2 Weekly Learning Update

We have had a very busy and exciting week in Year 2!

In English, we started our brand new non-fiction books all about what to wear in the Arctic. We began with an ideas party, using our Geography knowledge to think about the Arctic habitat, the landscape, and the Inuit people. We shared ideas about what clothing would be needed to survive in such a cold place. We then chose our six favourite ideas and planned what we will write on each page of our books. We worked hard to create sentences using ambitious adjectives and conjunctions. We loved designing our front covers and making a start on our books, and we can’t wait to write more this week!

In Maths, we finished our topic on money. We tackled some tricky word problems, practised adding prices together, and worked out how much change we would need to give. We had lots of fun putting this into action by playing shops!

DT was lots of fun this week as we started constructing our snow ploughs. We explored wheels and axles and learned about the chassis. We have now constructed the basic shell of our snow ploughs, ready to finish them next week. As part of our planning, we adapted toy cars into ploughs to test which shapes worked best. We tested these in the classroom to see how well they collected “snow” and will use what we learned to help us with our final designs.

In Science, we have been learning all about habitats and how animals adapt to live in different conditions. This week, we looked closely at how a polar bear has adapted to survive in the Arctic.

We are really enjoying learning new skills in PE, including volleyball, and we have also made a start on our dance for the extravaganza!

We can’t wait to see what exciting things we will be learning about next week!
