Year 2 Weekly Update
What a fantastic week we’ve had in Year 2!
In English, we continued following the journey of the postman and described the different houses he visited along the way. The children wowed us with their ambitious adjectives and brilliant descriptions of each place he stopped.
In Maths, we worked really hard on addition and subtraction, especially adding and taking away across 10 – a tricky skill, but everyone showed amazing determination and made great progress.
In Geography, we continued learning about the United Kingdom and explored the capital cities, focusing on our own capital, London. The children were fascinated by the landmarks we looked at—so I apologise in advance if anyone requests a weekend trip to see the London Eye!
In Science, we carried on learning about materials and completed our investigation into waterproof and non-waterproof materials. We discovered that cotton absorbs water and is not waterproof, while plastic repels water and is. We were amazed to learn that rubbing wax crayon over cotton can actually make it waterproof!
In R.E., we learnt about the Christmas story and confidently sequenced the key events of this very important story.
P.E. was great fun this week as we had the climbing equipment out and practised our climbing and balancing skills.
We ended the week with a special 25 Challenge for Children in Need. The children came up with ideas of things they could do 25 of, and Mrs D (bravely!) chose 25 minutes of silent working. She didn’t think we could do it… but we amazed her — and we did!
Well done for a brilliant week, Year 2! 🌟
