* Important notice*

We would like to kindly remind parents that the school car park is reserved for authorised staff and visitors who have received prior permission from Mrs Bourner. We have had a number of near misses recently caused by cars pulling into the entrance of the school car park to drop off and then pulling out again onto the A4. The A4 is a very busy road, it is important to set a good example to the children so please park sensibly and walk over the footbridge. There is plenty of parking at the village hall and it is only a short 1-2 minute walk from kiss and drop. Thank you.

Year 2 Weekly Update

This week has been full of exciting learning across all subjects.

In English, we have been busy writing our own books all about Florence Nightingale, showcasing everything we learned during our immersion activities and from our history lessons. The children have included many fascinating facts, and they are very proud of their work. We are all looking forward to sharing these wonderful books with other year groups next week.

In Maths, we have been learning about fractions, focusing on 1/4, 1/2, and 1/3 of shapes and numbers. The children especially enjoyed the practical activities, which helped them understand how fractions work in a fun and engaging way. We are excited to continue exploring fractions next week—especially when thinking about real-life questions like how big a slice of cake each person would get!

In Art, we explored the work of artist Chris Kenny and focused on how everyday objects can be transformed using imagination. We began by creating plants with roots and shoots using classroom objects, then moved on to using sticks to represent different people in our community. The children had lots of fun and created a wide variety of figures, including police officers, firefighters, vets, nurses, doctors, teachers, and even a lollipop person.

In Science, we have been learning about the human body. One of the highlights was playing a “guess who” game using baby photos—thank you for sending these in! We then compared our baby and toddler photos to how we look now, discussing what has changed and what has stayed the same. We also thought about what we might be like in the future and recorded all the new things we can do now that we couldn’t do as babies.

It has been a fantastic week of learning, and we are very proud of everything the children have achieved.
