Year 2 Weekly Update

Year 2 Weekly Learning Update

This week in Year 2, we have been having lots of fun while learning across the curriculum. In English, we have been writing our own books all about winter. We explored winter weather, the clothes we wear, and animals that hibernate. We have really enjoyed creating our books and are looking forward to sharing them with each other next week.

In Maths, we have been learning all about money. We explored the value of different coins and investigated the many ways to make the same amount. We also compared values using greater than, less than, and equal to, and practised adding more money to an amount to find the new total. Our classroom shop has been very popular, giving us the chance to practise adding amounts and giving change.

We have also started our DT project, which is to design and make a snow plough. Before beginning construction, we have been exploring different vehicles and learning what they need to move. We investigated chassis and axles and discussed which designs would work best for a snow plough. We are very excited to start making them next week.

In RE lessons, we have been learning about the Jewish faith and what is important to Jewish people. We have explored the Star of David, the mezuzah, and the Shema.

In Science, we have been learning all about habitats. We explored the difference between things that are alive, once alive, and never alive, and began learning what a habitat is. We have practised naming a variety of plants and animals and identifying the habitats they live in. We have also been exploring the Arctic habitat, learning about the animals that live there and making comparisons with native animals and their habitats.
