🌟 Class News Update 🌟
We’ve had a fantastic week of learning, full of creativity, challenges, and fun! Here’s a little look at what we’ve been up to in class:
English
This week in English, we have been exploring the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood and focusing closely on the magical setting of the forest. To bring our ideas to life, we ventured outside and used our senses to imagine what it would be like to step into the story. We thought carefully about what we might see, hear, smell, taste, and touch in the forest, and described these using rich adjectives. We then challenged ourselves to extend our sentences by joining ideas together with conjunctions. After planning our writing, we are now excited and ready to begin creating our very own books next week!
Maths
In Maths, we have begun exploring place value, an important topic that helps us build a strong understanding of our number bonds to ten. Next week, we’ll be moving on to working with larger numbers. We’ve also had lots of fun playing Hit the Button, trying our best to beat Mrs. D! She may still be undefeated for now, but some of us are getting very close — and we’re confident that victory will be ours soon!
Art
In Art this term, we are exploring the work of Pablo Picasso and discovering how he used bold shapes and bright colours to create his famous portraits. To help us work towards creating our own Picasso-inspired pieces, we have been experimenting with different techniques. First, we used just one shape to create a face, and then we played Roll a Picasso to design imaginative portraits in his unique style. We also thought carefully about the emotions our portraits showed and how these could be expressed through shape and colour.
Science
In Science this term, we are exploring materials and their properties with an exciting challenge — designing a waterproof coat for Little Red Riding Hood to wear as the seasons change! We began by learning what a material is, then grouped different objects according to the material they are made from. We also started investigating some of their properties, and we can’t wait to continue our experiments and discoveries next week.
Reading
We have now finished checking the children’s reading levels and have sent home books. Please begin reading with your child each day and record this in their reading record. Just a few minutes daily makes a big difference to their progress and confidence.
✨ We’re looking forward to another exciting week of learning, exploring, and having fun together! ✨
